It's a Sin Unless A Priest Does It...

Apparently the Vatican is trying to redefine its list of deadly sins.

Amusingly, we find this little tidbit in the midst of it all:

He also named abortion and paedophilia as two of the greatest sins of our times. The archbishop brushed off cases of sexual violence against minors committed by priests as "exaggerations by the mass media aimed at discrediting the Church".

So, being a pedophile is a mortal sin...unless of course you happen to be a Priest, in which case it's all okay?

This has been your daily dose of hypocrisy inspired irony...

Yes, but what kind of sin? Forgivable? I was under the impression that was part of the complex web involving priests. They repent, are forgiven and the Church doesn't throw them out.

And does that trump criminal charges? Heck, adultery is a sin. But is it a crime in the 'developed' world?

But it's good to see the pope catching up to 'modern times' because sexually abusing children from a position of authority, was A-OK as an act before God before this pronouncement apparently.

WTF?

Thank God (or whatever) that the courts don't see it that way. What a stupid thing for him to say. Maybe even an evil thing.

Well, once in a while the church has to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty.

After all, wearing mixed fibers just doesn't cut it as an "abdomination unto god" in today's society. We have to get into something a little more juicy.

Although, I can't help but note that paedophilia has been around for quite some time and it's not just a "new" modern evil. But I'm very relieved to hear that the church has never been involved in this - and that all reported cases thus far have simply been exaggerations aimed at discrediting the church. What a relief!

I'm just waiting to see what they decide to do about sexual orientation issues - but I'm finding it hard to keep up with the church on this issue. If it is not in the missionary position and not for the purpose of procreation - do I still merit eternal hellfire? And what of pologamy? (Oh, right - that's the Mormans). I'm having such a hard time keeping up.

When will the church simply publish the definitive list of why we are all going to burn in hell? Err... I mean to say - the definitive list of sins unto the lord. Although, I haven't been keeping close tally, I think there is an easy way to sum it up with a single symbol: *

Collective Punishment
